The Forum Club of the Palm Beaches will present Arthur C. Brooks on Friday, December 9, at Noon at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.

Arthur C. Brooks is the William Henry Bloomberg Professor of the Practice of Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School and Professor of Management Practice at the Harvard Business School, where he teaches courses on leadership, happiness, and social entrepreneurship. He is also a columnist at The Atlantic, where he writes the popular weekly “How to Build a Life” column. Brooks is the author of 12 books, including New York Times bestseller Love Your Enemies. He speaks to audiences all around the world about human happiness, and works to raise well-being within private companies, universities, public agencies, and community organizations.

Brooks began his career as a classical French hornist, leaving college at 19, touring and recording in the United States and Spain. In his late twenties, while still performing, he returned to school, earning a BA through distance learning. At 31, he left music and earned an MPhil and PhD in public policy analysis from the Rand Graduate School, during which time he worked as an analyst for the Rand Corporation’s Project Air Force, performing military operations research analysis. Brooks then spent the next 10 years as a university professor, primarily at Syracuse University, where he taught economics and nonprofit management, and published 60 peer-reviewed articles and several books, including the textbook “Social Entrepreneurship” (2008). In 2009, Brooks became the president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in Washington, DC, one of the world’s most influential think tanks. Over the following decade, he
was selected as one of Fortune Magazine’s “50 World’s Greatest Leaders” and was awarded seven honorary doctorates.

Originally from Seattle, Brooks currently lives outside Boston, with his wife Ester Munt-Brooks, who is a native of Barcelona. They have three adult children: Joaquim (24), Carlos (22), and Marina (19).

Exemplary Elected Official Award

The Honorable Sheree Davis Cunningham

During the December 9th program, the Forum Club will also recognize the Honorable Sheree Davis Cunningham with the organization's Exemplary Elected Official Award.

Judge Sheree Davis Cunningham is one of Palm Beach County’s most influential elected officials and a trailblazer for women and minorities in the judiciary. Judge Cunningham moved to West Palm Beach in 1985 after attending Howard University School of Law. She was offered a coveted clerkship with The Honorable Paul H. Roney, former Chief Judge of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1993, Judge Cunningham was appointed to the 15th Judicial Circuit Court by Governor Lawton Chiles. She was the first black woman to serve as a judge in Palm Beach County and served in this capacity for 26 years until her retirement in 2019.

Judge Cunningham’s passion was making a difference in the domestic violence arena, specifically as it relates to children and ensuring they are not overlooked as victims. Judge Cunningham was also committed to assisting younger lawyers with judicial aspirations, serving annually on a panel entitled “The Road to the Bench.” She was also a volunteer judge for the Civil Drug Court.

Judge Cunningham’s commitment to public service beyond the bench is extensive. She has been the recipient of the Thurgood Marshall Awards from the F. Malcolm Cunningham, Sr. Bar Association. She has been recognized as one of Florida’s 25 Most Influential and Prominent Black Women, and she has received the Heritage Leadership Award for Outstanding Community Service. She was also the recipient of the Extraordinary Commitment to Fairness in the Criminal Justice System in 2010.
